Rebecca
Dear Becky:

You were born quiet. You never spoke till you were three years old. But the day you decided to talk was the day I knew - you were going to be someone special. From then to now, you have unknowingly prepared yourself to take the world by storm. Not just with your magic words, but with your photographs, with your illustrations, with your music, with your never-ending, beautifully creative ideas.

Your sensitivity and unique sense of humour, the self-motivation you possessed at so young an age, your intelligence, your drive for perfection in all that you do will enable you to be whatever you want to be. Your insatiable appetite to learn has made you uniquely knowledgeable for your age. Your laughing personality has endeared you to the hearts of everyone who has met you, young and old alike. The journals you have kept for all those years are works of art in themselves. They illustrate very clearly the poetic quality of your life.

You continue to talk about the long list of things you would like to do, places you would like to go, books you want to read, and stories you want to write. Your eagerness and enthusiasm to absorb it all leaves me exhausted but at the same time, I am in awe.

You are truly an amazing young woman.

Love Mom

At a very early age, Becky discovered she had an ear and a love for music. She was able to pick up any instrument and learn to play it. She tried them all. She is now able to play the flute, the clarinet, the guitar and the violin, with the piano being the one she ultimately settled on.

Becky and Jake 'at work'Becky took her first year of university with Class Afloat, and sailed around South America from Trinidad to San Francisco aboard a student-run tall ship. This experience opened her eyes to the possibilities the world had to offer.
Upon her return home, she continued her studies at Simon Fraser University, then two years later transferred to The University of British Columbia. She took her last year at University of Santa Barbara in California as a foreign exchange student.  May 25, 1998 Becky graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in English (literature emphasis) and Art studio.

Her best friend and soul mate, Jake, graduated from UBC the same day with his Bachelor of Arts degree, philosophy as his major.

Becky and Jake were married June 2, 2000.
