I was born an Air Force brat in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Like all children of servicemen, we covered a lot of territory while growing up. From Saskatchewan, Ontario, Germany, France to Quebec. I miss my father who left us in 1989 and my mother who died in 2001 .. both together again. I feel their presence every minute of every day.  My father guided my two sisters and me with the finesse and authority reserved for men in the service.

My first job after graduating from Sir George Williams University in Montreal was at an advertising agency in Toronto, Ontario. From there I worked at an engineering firm in Niagara Falls, Ontario. And from there at a radio station in Niagara Falls. That's where I met and married, Paul, who worked at the station as a freelance writer. We left the radio station together to start a graphic design business in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.

We then moved the business to Toronto but when my first child was born, I stayed home to enjoy the wonderful world of motherhood. Four children later, Paul's work brought us to B.C. in '77 and when the kids were old enough and off to school, I started looking around for something else to do. Vancouver had by that time become quite the place for the film industry so I thus began my home based business as a documentary and feature film transcriber. One of my projects was transcribing a television documentary called Life on the Internet. I had no idea what the Internet was when I first started, but safe to say, by the time I had finished the documentary, I not only knew what the Internet was, but had a good understanding of how it all began and where it was going.

After six years of around-the-clock transcribing and ultimately suffering burnout, in 1995 I decided to change my line of work and join the Internet revolution. I began a little web design business. I could now incorporate my love of computers, my interest in art and design, the challenge of Adobe Photoshop, my love of photography and still remain at home to care for Joshua.

The rest is history!!

GARDENING and PONDS

RUN YOUR CURSOR OVER POND

A place of solitude. My water gardens are my pride and joy. I've built two ponds, one stocked with koi and goldfish. The other for water plants. I have a third water garden in two half-barrels, with water cascading from one to the other.

Cheryl's Pond
by: Bill Kimmett

Bamboo stalk, ridged with
Badges wrung from cycles spinning
Hoop
Hard as lacquered truths;
Hollow as artifice painted
On ice.
Preens as a conduit of trickling
Life.
Garrulous with outpourings of
Rain,
Singing rippling circle duets
With timeless pools.
Microcosm of subtlety and serenity
Fed by the soul of Cheryl.
Returned with flickering tails
Of Carp; coy with flooding awe
As masters of this universe.
Bamboo keens tunes born
Of mist and mood,
Played by ridged fingers
Of the muse called thanks.
Kayaking in Howe Sound in evening light

KAYAKING

When I  need some time-out, there's nothing that puts everything back in perspective for me more than kayaking on a warm summer day or evening in Howe Sound. Kayaking offers an intimacy with the water not possible with other boats.

ART

My first love is art.  I SHOULD have taken graphic art and design after leaving high school, but, as we all know, our roads are paved with good intentions.

Most of today's young people have the right idea.  Pick your passion and go for it! This is something my husband and I have encouraged our children to do as well.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Armed with my digital camera, I experiment with nature photography.  We live an area of British Columbia where the opportunities are endless.
ILLUSTRATION -- COMPUTER GRAPHICS

I've illustrated and published a few books in South Africa -- the Really, Really, Really Easy Computer Books for Beginners based on Windows 98 and Windows XP as well as computer-related books on digital photography, genealogy, Web site design and buying & selling on line.

WEB DESIGN

Microsoft Frontpage, Adobe Photoshop, lots of manuals, a home computer and sheer determination.  With these tools I have built a manageable client base and have produced and am hosting a few web sites.
